Meet Savannah

Savannah was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) when she was just two years old.

“Several days before my diagnosis I began running a fever that would not break,” Savannah shared. “My mom had me at the doctor’s twice in the same week and they reassured her that it was cold and flu season, and we should just let this run its course.”

But on New Year’s Eve, her family knew something wasn’t right. At the ER the next morning, the doctor decided to do bloodwork.

“My white blood cells were at 88,000 when they should be around 10,000,” Savannah said. “My family had no idea what this meant so they asked what it could be and he said it could possibly be leukemia.”

An ambulance took the family to St. Christopher’s Children’s Hospital in Philadelphia, where the diagnosis of AML was confirmed that night. Treatment began immediately with two blood transfusions and platelets.

The toddler would spend the next five months inpatient at the hospital undergoing treatment.

We’re thrilled to share that 16-year-old Savannah is doing well today.

“I celebrated 13 years cancer-free in June 2023! I continue to see my cardiologist and oncologist every year.”
